It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Craig Cummings, Professor of Music Theory, as Interim Dean of the School of Music, effective July 1st.
A distinguished teacher and scholar, Professor Cummings, began his career at Ithaca College in 1989 after completing his PhD at Indiana University - Bloomington. He has served as chair of the Department of Music Theory, History, and Composition since 1997. Professor Cummings is committed to the ongoing excellence of the School of Music and Ithaca College. He has the administrative and leadership skills that are necessary to ensure the continued success of the school in the coming year. I am very pleased that Professor Cummings has agreed to serve in this capacity and I look forward to working with him in his new role.
In the near future I will begin the work of putting together a committee that will conduct the search for a new permanent dean of the School of Music. The search will officially launch very early in the fall 2012 semester with the intention of making an appointment by late February or early March of 2013.
