Gordon Rowland, professor in the Department of Strategic Communication, edited a special issue of Educational Technology titled "Innovation Over the Edge" to be published in September. The issue connected work across related fields and disciplines by asking top scholars in the fields of communications, computer/information science, design, organizational science, psychology, and systems science to reflect on the most exciting current work in their fields., and then educational technologists to reflect on the implications of that work for future educational technology.
Rowland was invited to present a keynote address at the 2012 AECT Research Symposium on Design Process, Design Thinking, and Design Studio in Louisville, Kentucky, also. The AECT Research Symposium focused on design and its roles in educational technology. The keynote he delivered has been adapted to become a book chapter published by Springer Publishing.
