The 13th annual Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat (CCLR) for Ithaca College students will be held on October 31 to November 2, 2014. This two and a half day retreat presents the opportunity to explore various aspects of diversity and their relationship to leadership. During the retreat, the entire group will participate in a series of educational sessions and discuss issues as a large group. There will also be an opportunity to connect in smaller, informal groups.

The Office of International Programs is now reviewing applications to the London Center for Spring 2015. The deadline for Spring 2015 applications has been extended to Monday, September 15, but we will review complete applications on a rolling basis as they come in.

NOTE: we are expecting a very large applicant pool for spring study in London, and it is possible we will not be able to accommodate all applicants.  Therefore, get your complete application submitted online as soon as possible!

The Know Your Options: Study Abroad Basics sessions will give an overview of all of the study abroad possibilities available to you as an IC student. The London Center sessions will tell you what it is like to spend a summer or semester studying at the ICLC. The Study Abroad Drop-in Q&A sessions are a time for you to come with the study abroad questions you need answered. And the Study Abroad Ice Cream Social includes a panel presentation from study abroad alumni talking about their international experiences and, of course, make-your-own sundaes! Come learn more about your study abroad options!

Are you interested in studying in a Spanish-speaking country?  A representative of our affiliated study abroad provider Spanish Studies Abroad will be on campus this Tuesday, September 9 to present an information session and hold a table in the campus center. Spanish Studies Abroad runs programs in three cities in Spain (Alicante, Barcelona and Sevilla); in Córdoba, Argentina; in Havana, Cuba; and in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  All of their programs have a strong focus on cultural immersion and language acquisition.

The US has experienced an explosive growth of inequality. Why? Is it the inevitable result of globalized capitalist economies or is it the result of policy choices? If the latter, can we design policies to reverse the rapid increase of income and wealth inequality in the US? After an opening skit, participants develop "elevator speeches" to counter the neoliberal explanations of why US inequality has grown. We discover that the "Curse" also imposes significant social and psychological costs.

Timecards for the pay period August 25-September 7 must be submitted and approved by all supervisors by Tuesday, September 9th at noon in order for payment on Friday, September 12.  It is important that you verify the dates on the timecard when you submit it for approval.  If you create your timecard after September 7, you will need to choose the correct timecard from the list of values on the top of the timecard next to "Pay Period."  Any future-dated timecards will not be processed.  Also, if you have not yet done so, please sign up for direct deposit in Parnassus.

We'll be kicking off another great year of volunteering in our local community by helping out with Some BIG events and IMPORTANT causes.

Students can choose to volunteer with one of three different sites:

  • Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack Event - An opportunity to pack nutritious, low cost meals for food insecure areas across the world.
  • AIDS Ride for Life - Volunteer at the check-in station of the biggest HIV/AIDS treatment and awareness fundraiser in southern New York. Cheer on the cyclists and help make this event a success!
  • The Salvation Army of Ithaca - the Salvation Army serves over 100,000 meals annual to residents of Ithaca, NY. Help them prepare and serve one of their Saturday meals!

Service Saturdays is your opportunity to make a difference the fun and easy way!

Spanish Studies Abroad, SIT (the School for International Training) and IES (the Institute for the International Education of Students) are all long-standing affiliates of Ithaca College, and each semester many IC students study abroad on programs run by these organizations.  Over the next two weeks, representatives from each of these organizations will be on campus to present an information session and to table in the Campus Center lobby.

Looking for individuals to participate in a study that involves listening to real people’s stories and rating how clear they are to you! Testing time is about 1 hour. Your participation will help future clinicians understand the relationship between cognition and story-telling, as well as help to promote graduate student research at Ithaca College!
