Guests
Campus guests and visitors have several options for accessing the internet while on campus. The choice depends on whether or not the visitor is using a personal computer or an IC workstation, the length of time the visitor is on campus, the resources the visitor needs to access, and whether the visitor is sponsored by a faculty or staff member. For many visitors, using the unsecured wireless network (ICAirnet) from their personal device is the best (or only) option.
Wireless
The unsecured wireless network requires no configuration or authentication and allows visitors basic access to the Internet. Information transmitted or received over ICAirnet is not encrypted and could be intercepted and viewed by other network users.
To use ICAirnet:
- Choose ICAirnet from the list of available wireless networks
- Enter an e-mail address
- Proceed unsecured (setting up a secure connection requires the visitor to have a GuestNet account created by an Ithaca College faculty or staff sponsor)
GuestNet and the Wired Network
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the ongoing transition from the old network to the new network, GuestNet accounts may not function on all network ports. If your GuestNet account does not allow your device access to the network, please contact the Helpdesk for assistance at 4-1000. GuestNet is being replaced by a new guest registration process in the near future.
GuestNet allows a faculty or staff member to create a network account for guests who need to connect a personal laptop to the Ithaca College wired network. GuestNet is a good option for guest lecturers, vendors demonstrating software or other people doing temporary business with the college.
A faculty or staff member must sponsor the guest for a specific time frame by using the GuestNet sponsorship site. The sponsor and the guest will each receive an e-mail confirmation which includes details of the account, steps required to complete the process, and instructions for the guest to follow once they arrive on campus.
Public Kiosks
For general internet access, public kiosks are located in the Campus Center, IC Square, and Job Hall. These kiosks allow for quick access to the Internet and are available for anyone on campus to use.
Labs
To access the Internet, visitors may also use the Mac computers located in the public labs: Friends 110, CHS and Williams 210.
IC Affiliates
Some visitors who will be on campus for an extended period or who need access to a variety of resources may qualify for "IC Affiliate" status. The department or school that the visitor is affiliated with needs to submit an IC Affiliate Request form to Human Resouces.
