Overview
Janice Elich Monroe can discuss the role of recreational therapy as a viable treatment intervention for individuals with physical disabilities and other health, behavioral and cognitive conditions. She can also provide insight into the role recreational therapy plays in promoting wellness, healthy leisure behaviors, and overall quality of life. In addition, she can discuss the social and cultural aspects of play and the role it plays in promoting cultural awareness and enhancing family cohesiveness. A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, she has spearheaded a number of service learning initiatives involving students and advocates recreational therapy as a viable treatment intervention. Her strengths are interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring students, faculty and clinicians. Her professional focus is on curricular development in the areas of interdisciplinary collaboration, international studies and the development of mentoring relationships.
