Anna Uhls at a breaking news meeting at the WashingtonPost.com.
Erika interviewed journalist Bob Woodward as part of her internship with IC View, the college's quarterly magazine.
Journalism students intern at a wide variety of places including:
"This internship may have changed my life. Not only is a dream come true to work for The Washington Post, but it also sparked my interest to work in online journalism. I love the optimism of the future of news on the Web and the innovation in developing it. Getting the chance to work along the top journalists in the country at washingtonpost.com is surreal and invaluable for my career."
Anna is an intern at the multimedia and breaking news desk of the washingtonpost.com, while she studies at Ithaca College's Washington, D.C. program for the fall semester. Before this internship, Anna did four internships in print journalism, always with the goal of becoming a newspaper journalist. While at the post.com, Anna learned many news skills at the online breaking news desk, which was just named the best overall news site by several organizations, and on the multimedia/video desk, which just received the first Emmy given for online news coverage. Because of this incredible experience, she now feels prepared to enter this booming medium of news with skills in video, audio, photo and print editing and producing.
Anna said she would encourage all student journalists to try many different mediums of journalism to best prepare themselves for the changing world of the news, and to possibly spark an interest they may not have known they had, like in her case.
She graduated in May 2007, and now works full time at WashingtonPost.com.
Erika interned during the Spring 2007 semester at ICView, Ithaca College's alumni magazine. From a health campaign titled "Feel Your Boobies," to a press conference and private interview with one of journalism's most groundbreaking reporters--Bob Woodward--Erika got to cover it all. She met with her editor regularly to pitch ideas and talk about what was going on in the life of the campus community, but she was able to research subjects and people that took her far beyond IC and into the global news sphere. The experience she got while being not only an independent writer but also a copy editor and researcher for a professional magazine has really prepared her to set her sights beyond campus.
