Three Excellent Students in IMC Program Selected as American Advertising Federation's "Most Promising Minority Students 2007"

Ekta Batra ’07, Ron Lam ’07, and Carolyn Larson ’07 were three of 50 students nationwide to be chosen for the American Advertising Federation's “Most Promising Minority Students 2007” program.

American Advertising Federation (AAF) is the oldest national advertising trade association and represents 50,000 professionals in the advertising industry. The “Most Promising Minority Student” program is the industry's largest and most comprehensive diversity hiring solution. This year's 50 graduating advertising seniors represented 34 colleges. The selected students traveled to New York City from February 6-8, 2007, to network, interview, and be honored by some of the top advertising agencies, media companies, and advertisers in the country.

Students were nominated by IMC Program Director and Associate Professor Scott Hamula, who also serves as Faculty Advisor of the student chapter of the AAF.

Ekta Batra ’07, an IMC major, said, "New York was a fabulous experience. We had the opportunity to meet the industry's top firms, such as Verizon, MTV, Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWA, and MediaVest. It was an excellent platform to create contacts and network. I also realized that IMC is the right major for the advertising and marketing industry as it provides current and required knowledge -- and builds confidence."

Ron Lam ’07, an IMC minor, explained, “The IMC minor was successful in giving me an in-depth view of the advertising industry and prepared me for a variety of internships. Classes like Ad Lab really capture the industry well. It was exciting to be in New York City with the industry's future changers, thinkers, doers, and creators all in one room together. I thank the AAF along with Ithaca College for allowing me to be a part of it."

"It was great meeting so many diverse students from around the nation who are as enthusiastic about advertising as I am," said Carolyn Larson '07, an IMC major. "IMC has taught us how to incorporate everything into the marketing mix, which is really impressive to many agencies looking to hire. In today's environment, it is essential to cut through the clutter and establish a connection with consumers."
