Student Award Opportunities

In addition to the department sources, there are many H&S awards, honors, and scholarships available.

Bertolini Endowment

Provides annual support for undergraduate research in biology and biochemistry.

The Department of Biology will award the grant annually to an appropriate student research project. The chair of the department will be responsible for the award process each year.

Jason Dickens Memorial Award

This award is given in honor of Jason Dickens, who was an Ithaca College Biology major.   Jason achieved an outstanding record while at Ithaca, being named to the Dean’s List every semester.  He was also caring, dedicated and motivated.  Jason hoped to attend medical school and to use his talents to serve society as a physician. 

Tragically he was the victim of a boating accident in the summer of 1998 before he had an opportunity to realize his goals and fully utilize his talents.  This award is given in his memory and honor.

Requirements:

Must be a Junior Majoring in Biochemistry or Biology

Must Have an Overall GPA Over 3.5

Must Be Committed to a Future in Science

Submit a 250 Word Essay Describing Future Goals and Aspirations

An essay and unofficial transcript will be requested to be considered for the award during the mid-spring semester.

Larry Metzger, M.S. '87, Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to rising junior or senior majoring in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry with demonstrated significant financial need. The recipient must also have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and intend to pursue an advanced degree in science other than a medical degree. Established by Ithaca College in conjunction with donations from Larry's family, colleagues, and friends to honor and remember his many contributions and great dedication to the College community for over 30 years.

NM Morris Family Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to a student majoring in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or physics with demonstrated financial need.
