7.6 Athletics
7.6.3 Disciplinary Action for Student-Athletes
A successful athletics program is one in which there is respect for College,
departmental, and team policies. We expect all individuals associated
with our programs to strive for excellence in all phases of their endeavors,
and to conduct themselves at all times in a manner befitting "ambassadors"
of the College. It is essential that you demonstrate sound moral and ethical
judgment in your personal conduct so that you bring credit to the College
and your team. Be aware of the image you are creating and that the impression
you make on fellow students and professors is a positive one.
The coach is responsible for the total conduct of the coach's sport program
within the limits of authority defined by the philosophy and goals of
the Division and College, as well as the departmental policies and procedures,
rules of the NCAA, and other sport governing bodies.
All team policies established by the coaches are in the best interest
of the student-athlete and shall be enforced without prejudice. All rules
of training, curfew, or conduct established by the coach shall be given
to each team member in writing prior to the season or at the time they
are established. A copy of these rules is also sent to the director of
athletics. All rules shall be clearly stated.
The Office of Intercollegiate Athletics has established a procedure to
handle any disciplinary matters, which may occur. You, as a student-athlete,
can be suspended by your coach for: (a) violating team regulations such
as missing classes; (b) tardiness; (c) missing practices or competitive
event(s); (d) attitudinal problems; (e) breaking team curfews; (f) failure
to attend rehabilitative sessions prescribed by the Sports Medicine Staff;
(g) failure to attend academic support services, study or tutorial sessions;
(h) or any other team-related matter. The suspended student-athlete has
the right to appeal the suspension to the director of athletics.
Any student-athlete who participates in any violation of NCAA rules and
regulations will be immediately suspended from the team and will be reinstated
pending recommendation by the NCAA eligibility staff.
The Office of Judicial Affairs is responsible for administering the Ithaca
College Student Conduct Code, which includes the College's rules and regulations
and the processes for hearing cases of alleged misconduct by Ithaca College
students. As members of the Ithaca College community, all students have
an obligation to know and obey the rules and regulations of this institution
as well as civil laws. The Student Conduct Code applies to any and all
lands or facilities owned, operated, or leased by Ithaca College, as well
as any location where a student is engaged in a College activity, unless
otherwise noted in the Code. Examples include, but are not limited to,
travel by athletic teams to events or games off campus. For more information,
refer to the "Student Conduct Code," section 7.1.2
of this Policy Manual.
Student-athletes who violate the College's rules and regulations, as
cited in the Student Conduct Code, may also face disciplinary action by
the director of intercollegiate athletics.
7.6.3.1 Rules, Regulations and Sanctions

(without a prescription) is prohibited in the athletic facilities
and on the practice or game field, and on all college-sponsored

Non-compliance with the above-stated rule and regulation will
result in the following actions:
First Offense: The student-athlete will attend the Alcohol Education
Seminar sponsored by the Office of the Judicial Administrator or other
education programs as deemed appropriate by the Office of the Director
of Athletics. The student-athlete will be suspended for at least 10 percent
of his/her athletic contests.

participation. The Office of the Director of Athletics will notify the

drugs including cocaine, amphetamines, marijuana, opiates, barbiturates,
and anabolic steroids by any student-athlete will result in suspension
from athletic participation for a period deemed appropriate by the
director of athletics.
|
Note: Violation of above rules during recess or spring training
travel will result in notification of the individual's parents, who will
be responsible for arranging the student-athletes return to home or campus.
The matter will be handled according to the sanction procedures listed
above.
In every case the individual head coach has the authority to place a
more stringent sanction on the student-athlete.
You are not eligible to compete if you knowingly: provide information
to individuals involved in organized gambling activities concerning intercollegiate
athletics competition; solicit a bet on any intercollegiate team; accept
a bet on any team representing the institution or participate in any gambling
activity that involves intercollegiate athletics through a bookmaker,
a parlay card or any other method employed by organized gambling. (NCAA
