Learn About Our Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals

Our Mission

The BIPOC Unity Center works to build and bridge communities that welcome and affirm people to be their whole selves, honoring their multiple identities and lived experiences, by empowering IC students to resist and interrupt systems of oppression. The Center coordinates initiatives aimed at creating a sense of belonging for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students through support, resources, education and programs at Ithaca College. The BIPOC Unity Center and its programs are open to all students.

Our Vision

Provide resources, education, and programs to the Ithaca College community to foster BIPOC student belonging and brave spaces to be seen, be valued, and be heard.

Our Values

The BIPOC Unity Center champions our four core values which center and focus our work on behalf of students and our greater Ithaca College community.

  • Advocacy
  • Education
  • Empowerment
  • Solidarity

Our Goals

1. Provide programs and workshops on issues related to race, ethnicity, and inclusion at Ithaca College.

2. Cultivate culturally validating spaces where BIPOC students feel a sense of belonging and part of a community beyond their individual selves.

3. Work collaboratively with key offices to help students, faculty, and staff understand the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, and other identities in the ways in which there is a compounding nature of power, privilege, and oppression that impacts BIPOC students at Ithaca College.

4. The Center staff will work collaboratively and in partnership as a member of the Student Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Team to provide the campus community with resources, education, and resolutions about topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
