| A memorial concert for emeritus professor of music George King Driscoll
will be held on Sunday, September 14, at 3:00 p.m. in Ford Hall Auditorium.
Former students from across the country will participate in the event honoring
one of the most revered faculty members in Ithaca College history. "He loved music so deeply," says one of the concert's organizers, Laurie Conrad. "After his retirement from the College we played duets sometimes three or four times a week, over a period of many years. For hours at a stretch. And when I walked in, he always had music on the rack-whatever he had taken out that morning to read. And he would always say some wonderful words about the piece, and with such enthusiasm that one wanted to practice all day and night as a result." Driscoll served on the piano faculty at the College from 1936 until 1977. An active recitalist, he gave concerts throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in Morocco, Algeria, and the Philippines. A member of the Ithaca College Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1973, Driscoll died in February at the age of 85. |
