Violinist, Percussionist Team up for Concert

 
 

Veteran faculty performers Ellen Jewett and Gordon Stout will be joining forces on Friday, November 14, in a Ford Hall Auditorium performance. The 8:15 p.m. recital is free and open to the public.

Among the works to be performed is De Color for violin and marimba, by Tania León, the 1997-98 Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition.

Jewett has studied at SUNY Stony Brook and at Indiana University-Bloomington and has taught at SUNY Stony Brook and the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. She has performed as the first violinist for the New England String Quartet and in collaboration with Yo Yo Ma. Jewett has recorded for Bridge Records, Newport Classics, and Meldac Records.

Stout holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the Eastman School of Music. He studied percussion with James Salmon and John Beck, and composition with Samuel Adler and Warren Benson. He is a founding member of the Eastman Marimba Band and is a member of the Wilder Duo, with Bob Levy, trumpet. He is a regular performer and lecturer at Percussive Arts Society conferences.
