Eight honors students in the School of Humanities and Sciences recently attended a regional conference of the National Collegiate Honors Council in Washington, D.C. Making honors-related presentations were Erin Stevens '00, Daria Denisov '01, Stephen Rojas '00, Dheeraj Verma '00, Matthew Payne '01, and Kimberly Gasber '01. Also participating in the conference were Michael Clisham '99 and Kristal Reithoffer '00.

Robert Benedict, sociology, recently spoke at the School of Social Work, University of Pennsylvania, as part of the Dorothy Everett Martin lecture series on human sexuality. Benedict's talk, "Sex is Good! Why are Professionals the Last to Admit it?" was held at the Penn Faculty Club in Philadelphia.

Katharyn Howd Machan, Writing Program, has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Creative Artists Partnership for her project, "Greater Ithaca Voices," a series of writing workshops for children and teenagers of Tompkins County that will begin late this spring.

Stephen T. Kimmons '78, director of alumni relations, was featured as a guest conductor during a March 5 concert in Syracuse by the United States Air Force Band of Liberty. The band is stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.

Heinz Koch, chemistry, had a paper published in the March issue of Berichte der Bunsen-Gesellschaft fur Physikalische Chemie. The paper, "Proton Transfer Between Carbon Acids and Methoxide: Studies in Methanol, the Gas Phase and Ab Initio MO Calculations," was coauthored by Masaaki Mishima of Kyushu University and Han Zuilhof of Wageningen Agricultural University.

A group of psychology students presented the results of their research at the 13th annual University of Scranton Psychology Conference on April 4. Accompanied by psychology department faculty members Nancy Rader, Linda McBride, Mary Turner DePalma, and Barney Beins, the students gave oral and poster presentations reflecting the research they completed on their research teams or as independent research projects. This is the 11th year that Ithaca College psychology students have had their work accepted for presentation at this conference.

Ithaca College's WICB-FM was recently awarded second place for the College Radio Station of the Year competition by Gavin magazine.
