Ithaca College Granted Charter by Society of Professional Journalists

Ithaca College has received a permanent chapter charter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the nation's oldest and most broad-based journalism organization.

"This is wonderful news for us and for our students," says Roy H. Park School of Communications dean Thomas W. Bohn. "Our permanent affiliation with SPJ is a major stepping stone for our journalism program."

A formal installation program will take place here next month.

Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists comprises more than 13,000 journalists dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism by stimulating high standards of ethical behavior and perpetuating a free press.
