October 12, 1998 Volume 21, No. 4

NEXUS, one of the world’s foremost chamber ensembles, will visit South Hill on Wednesday, October 28, as the Ithaca College concert season continues. Scheduled for 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall Auditorium, the concert will follow a 7:30 p.m. lecture by School of Music faculty member Gordon Stout in room 201, Ford Hall.

Formed in 1971 and still comprising its original members, NEXUS includes in its concert repertoire early 20th century xylophone ragtime music, group improvisations, music inspired by non-western cultures, works by some of the world’s most renowned composers, and compositions by its members.

A spring 1997 tour of Europe, highlighting the group’s 26th season, included performances with the Hannover (Germany) Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of Toru Takemitsu’s From Me Flows What You Call Time, and two Nexus recitals in Greece as part of the "Cultural Capital of Europe—Thessaloniki ’97" celebrations. The 1997–98 season also featured collaborations in the United States and Japan with virtuoso clarinetist Richard Stoltzman.

Tickets for NEXUS’s Ithaca performance are $8.00 for children, senior citizens, and Ithaca College students; $14 for Ithaca College alumni, faculty, staff, and administrators, Friends of Ithaca College, and other students; and $16 for the general public. Call 274-3171 for more information.
