College Students, Alumna, Staff Members Honored

Five students, an alumna, and two staff members were honored on Saturday, October 3, during an awards banquet concluding the College’s 1998 Professionals Symposium.

Rochelle Reodica ’99 was the recipient of the Montana Morton Memorial Award for academic achievement, leadership, community service, and participation in Ithaca Opportunity Program/Higher Education Opportunity Program activities. Karen O. Chambers ’99 and Nicola Ballentine ’98 were the recipients of the Award for Academic Achievement and Persistence, and Terry Huynh ’01 and Stephanie Titone ’01 were recipients of a certificate of achievement for exemplary use of tutorial instruction demonstrated by excellent preparation, participation, and persistence.

Recipient of the Exemplary Alumni Award was Brenda Gallashaw ’72, and certificates of appreciation from the students and staff of the IOP were presented to Vivia Hill, assistant director for multicultural recruiting/programs in the Office of Admission, and Margie Malepe, assistant director of conference and events services.

Organized around the theme "Sharing Our Stories: Collaborating for the Future," the Professionals Symposium was highlighted by the return to campus of alumni of color who shared their experiences and perspective on the workplace with the Ithaca community. Participants discussed making the most of their Ithaca College education, how to develop one’s marketable skills, and getting into graduate school.
