Ithaca College

Symposium to Feature Student/Faculty Research

The third annual James J. Whalen Academic Symposium, featuring outstanding research and creative works by Ithaca College students in collaboration with faculty, will be held on Thursday, March 18. Presentations are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Emerson Suites, Clark Lounge, and Klingenstein Lounge in the Campus Center.

"By providing an opportunity for the student presenters to share their work publicly, the symposium helps demonstrate the collaborative, student-centered learning environment that exists at the College," says Garry Brodhead, assistant provost and dean of graduate studies. "The program will be organized much like a professional conference — which, in fact, many of these students have also presented at — with oral presentations grouped by discipline or theme and lasting approximately 20 minutes each."

Students from all five of the College’s schools will participate in the symposium. In addition to discussing research projects in biology, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, modern languages, literature, art history, anthropology, physical therapy, sport science, and business, students will present original literary, musical, art, film, and other media works.

The symposium is named for president emeritus James J. Whalen to honor and recognize his support for student/faculty research during his 22 years as president of the College.
