Senior Citizen Sex Survey Topic of Gerontology Lecture
The sexual health and habits of older Americans will be the
focus of the next talk in the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute
Distinguished Lecture Series. Neal Cutler, director of survey
research for the National Council on Aging (NCOA), will discuss
"Sex after 60: Results of the National Survey" on Monday,
March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall.
His talk is free and open to the public.
For the past 30 years Cutler has
been conducting demographic and public opinion research on the
impact of aging as it relates to issues of health and finance.
He is the director of "Financial Literacy 2000," a
national study of financial knowledge and consumer confidence
concerning health and retirement. At NCOA he is directing studies
of public understanding of long-term care, attitudes toward aging
and sexuality, public and health professionals knowledge
of Alzheimers disease, and effects of untreated hearing
loss on the quality of life of older persons. He is the coauthor
of the book Can You Afford to Retire? and has written
or edited for such publications as Psychology Today, Journal
of Gerontology, and Public Opinion Quarterly.
Cutler has several concurrent academic appointments. He holds
an endowed chair in financial gerontology at Widener University,
is an adjunct professor of gerontology and social policy at the
University of Pennsylvania, and is a senior fellow at Penns
Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. He currently chairs
the National Institute on Financial Issues and Services for Elders
and is a fellow of both the Gerontological Society of America
and the Employee Benefit Research Institute. From 1979 to 1981
he served on the staff of the United States Senate Special Committee
on Aging.
