Family Weekend Scheduled for October 22–24

Parents and family members of students will be getting a taste of the Ithaca College experience at this year’s Family Weekend. Set to start on Friday, October 22, and run through Sunday, October 24, Family Weekend ’99 will offer visitors a selection of concerts, sporting events, theater performances, good food, presentations, open houses, and a Saturday breakfast with College president Peggy R. Williams.

Referred to as Parents Weekend in previous years, this annual event has had its name changed to be more inclusive. "We recognize that families extend to more than just parents," says Jack Oblak, vice president for student affairs and campus life. "We want to open the invitation to grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunts."

Registration begins on Friday at noon and goes until 9:00 p.m. in Phillips Hall. Visitors may also register on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Special events, which have been scheduled for each of the three days, are listed on the Family Weekend Web site.

Certain events require tickets (noted on the schedule) and may be picked up with the registration packets. Students may pick up packets for their families beginning at noon on Friday, October 22, as long as they present their College ID cards. Tickets are available to Family Weekend ’99 registrants only. Seating capacity is limited for each performance of Babes in Arms and for each concert. Reservations are based on the order in which paid registrations are postmarked.

In order to defray some of the costs the College incurs in offering Family Weekend, a fee is charged for each family member and guest attending. Ithaca College students, when accompanied by family members and guests, are not required to pay this fee, but they must request tickets for those events that require them.

Anyone with questions about Family Weekend ’99 should call the information line at (607) 274-3149, send an e-mail to familyw@ithaca.edu, or visit the Web site.
