Hollywood Producer and Director Will Visit in March

Bill FroehlichBill Froehlich, a Hollywood veteran who has worked with such luminaries as Paul Newman, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Falk, and Ron Howard, will be spending March 20 to 22 at the College as this year’s Skip Landen professional in residence. In addition to a free public presentation, Froehlich will speak to classes, hold master class workshops, and meet informally with students, faculty, and staff.

His talk, "A Journey through a Hollywood Career — How to Make It Happen," will take place on Tuesday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. In addition to clips from his own film and television productions, Froehlich, a 1974 graduate of Ithaca College, will share experiences from his career in the entertainment industry, which began in the mail room at Universal Studios.

He left his mail room job to coproduce an independent feature starring Katherine Hepburn. From there he worked as a production and development executive at MTM Enterprises and over the years has written, produced, and directed a host of films and television productions, including the Mike Hammer series, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Poltergeist, and The Sentinel. Car and Driver magazine called his feature documentary Circuit the best movie on auto racing ever made.

In his master classes Froehlich will discuss directing independent feature films and writing successful screenplays. He will use examples from The Outer Limits, MacGyver, and some of his other television series to demonstrate how one-hour television dramas are produced.

The Skip Landen Professional in Residence Series was established two years ago in the Roy H. Park School of Communications to bring a media professional to campus each year to meet and work with students. The series is named after filmmaker and professor emeritus of cinema and photography Skip Landen.

For more information call the Park School at 274-1023.
