Virtuoso pianist
Awadagin Pratt acclaimed as one of "50 leaders of tomorrow"
by Ebony magazine will give a free recital at the
College on Friday, October 6. Pratt is this year’s guest artist
in the Rachel S. Thaler Concert Pianist Series.

An opening
reception for The Art of Mor Faye will be held at the Handwerker
Gallery on Thursday, October 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The exhibit
of watercolors, sketches, and oils will run through November 5.

Several new
programs will join traditional events for Homecoming 2000, which
will be held during the weekend of October 13–15.
|
A series of
six film and video screenings begin on October 2. All the films
are free and open to the general public.

The series
will feature a talk October 5, by Meredith Minkler, professor
of health and social behavior at the University of California,
Berkeley. Winkler’s lecture is free and open to the public; a
reception will follow.

The
composer in residence with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and professor
of composition at the University of Michigan will be the focus of
three events in October as the School of Music’s 2000–2001 Karel
Husa Visiting Professor of Composition.

Chuck
Bachrach, an advertising executive responsible for choosing on which
programs to place commercials, will speak on Tuesday, October 10,
at 7:30 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium. His talk is free and open
to the public.

The College’s
newest honor society held its inaugural induction ceremony on
September 19, as nearly 60 members joined the Delta Phi chapter
of Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international scholars
