Ithaca College to Hold 11th Educational Technology Day

Ithaca College’s 11th annual Educational Technology Day will be held on Thursday, March 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Campus Center. Sponsored by Academic Computing and Client Services, a division of the Office of Information Technology, the event gives faculty, staff, and students from colleges and universities in upstate New York, as well as other interested people, a chance to learn about the latest computer and Internet technologies. It is free and open to the public.

"This is the largest multiplatform, multivendor show for higher education in the upstate New York area," says David Weil, associate director of ACCS. "Though primarily aimed at higher education, this show also attracts people from businesses and the community at large."

Last year’s event had 45 national and local vendors and attracted around 1,000 attendees from the Ithaca College community, as well as some 550 people representing over 120 higher education institutions, businesses, and organizations in the region.

This year’s show promises to be just as comprehensive, offering a technology showcase of vendors displaying new educational applications, computer graphics, music systems, and Internet developments. The list of vendors includes Adobe Systems, Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer, Dell Computer, Finger Lakes Technologies Group, Gateway Computer, Mascot Networks, Oracle Corporation, Sherpa Technologies, and Verizon Communications. A complete list, along with detailed overview information, is posted on the Educational Technology Day website at www.ithaca.edu/edtechday.

In addition to the vendor displays, there will be daylong demonstrations of how computers are being used in various classrooms and other educational settings at Ithaca College. Also, a series of 50-minute seminars will run throughout the day.

Though Educational Technology Day is free and open to the public, to better serve potential attendees ACCS is asking people to register by using the online form located on the Education Technology Day website or by calling 274-3030. Attendees may also visit the website for information on directions, parking, seminar topics, and vendors. No registration is required for Ithaca College faculty, staff, or students.
