Katharyn Howd Machan, writing, taught the annual Adirondack Writers Workshop in Old Forge this past summer. In addition, she recently published a volume of poems, Skyros, with Foothills Publishing. In July her performance of her poem "Cinderella’s Mice" was awarded first place in a regional competition, the Dancing Poetry Festival. As a result, she will perform the poem this fall at the eighth annual Dancing Poetry Contest and Festival Performance in San Francisco.

Brian McAree, student affairs and campus life, recently received the 2001 Lifetime Service Award by the Northeast Association of College and University Housing Officers. The award recognizes the many contributions he has made to students and colleagues during his 23 years in the residential life and student affairs profession. "This is the highest honor we can bestow on an individual. Ithaca College is indeed fortunate to have Brian as its leader in student affairs," says Chuck Lamb, director of residential life and university housing at SUNY at Binghamton and chair of NEACUHO’s Grants Awards and Scholarship Committee. NEACUHO is an organization of housing, residential life, and student services professionals dedicated to providing career development, sharing information, and recognizing outstanding contributions to the field.

Cyndy Scheibe, psychology and Project Look Sharp, led a group of 12 Ithaca-area teachers and high school students to Austin, Texas, for the National Media Education Conference in June. Chris Sperry, coordinator of curriculum and staff development for Project Look Sharp, presented a workshop about the Iroquois Imaging Project, a media literacy integration curriculum used in fourth-grade classrooms in the Ithaca and Lansing school districts.

Greg Victory, alumni relations, recently presented "Taking It to the Bank: Charging Up Your Creativity in Programming!"at the 2001 Association of Student Advancement Programs International Assembly in Toronto. He also emceed several events at the five-day convention. ASAP is an association of student alumni organizations from more than 360 higher education institutions across North America.
