Black History Month Screening

As part of Ithaca College's celebration of Black History Month, the HBO docudrama Boycott will be shown on Thursday, February 20, in Park Hall Auditorium. The 7:00 p.m. screening, which will be followed by a panel discussion, is free and open to the public.

The film dramatically explores the Montgomery, Alabama, bus boycott of 1955, featuring Jeffrey Wright as the young Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"Boycott authenticates its history with shrewd incorporation of historical documentary footage while boldly synthesizing various filmed scenes to invigorate its narrative," says Vaun Monroe, Pendleton fellow in screenwriting and assistant professor of cinema and photography. "It truthfully renders the role the entire black community played in the quest for human rights."

Joining Monroe as part of the panel discussion will be Cynthia Baldessare, assistant professor of theater arts; Peter Bardaglio, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Gina Marchetti, associate professor of cinema and photography; Traevena Potter-Hall, director of affirmative action and equal employment opportunity; and Gossa Tsegaye, assistant professor of television-radio.
