The Division of Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) is pleased to welcome Dr. Carol Henderson as Programs Director. An experienced administrator with a diverse background in higher education, Henderson began her position on October 29.
As programs director of GPS, Henderson will manage and oversee all non-semester programs within the division. Non-semester GPS offerings include certificate and professional programs, continuing education programs, pre-college academic programs, and summer and winter sessions.
“I hope to start by developing strong collegial relationships, and to build programs that create opportunities for my new colleagues to engage their areas of interest and expertise,” Henderson said.
From 2000 to 2005, Henderson served as vice president for academic affairs at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Wash. From 1995 to 2000, she worked as instructional dean for the Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Ore. Through these two positions, Henderson worked on program planning and development. She also managed distance learning as well as adult-learning programs.
Henderson applied to the Ithaca College GPS position when she relocated from the West coast to Ithaca in order to participate in EcoVillage at Ithaca (EVI).
“Over the years, [my husband and I] have participated in many educational and demonstration projects related to sustainable living, and being part of EVI was a natural next step for us—being part of a whole community that shares our commitment to living in a more environmentally sustainable way,” Henderson said.
Henderson received a Ph.D. in educational policy and management from the University of Oregon, and she has a Master’s in Librarianship and Information Science from the University of Denver.
The Division of Graduate and Professional Studies evolved out of a restructuring process that combined the former Division of Graduate Studies and the Division of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions. The GPS program director fills the role of the director of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions.
