Auditions

Pre-Screening Audition Requirements

There are currently pre-screening audition requirements in the following undergraduate areas:

  • Percussion: all undergraduate degrees
  • B.M. in Sound Recording Technology: all instruments

Materials and Deadlines

All application materials and video recordings for both the School of Music and Ithaca College must be submitted by the following dates:

  • November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants)
  • December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Applicants will receive notification by mid-November or early January as to the status of their on-campus audition and interview. Recordings must be submitted in video format; audio is not accepted.

Submission

Applicants will receive more information about the submission process after completing the Audition Request Form. Applicants will be provided a link to the Audition Preparation Form, through which all pre-screening video recordings and supplemental music application materials must be submitted.

  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
  3. Optional: up to two additional selections that you would like the audition committee to review.
 November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Cello B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
  3. Optional: up to two additional selections that you would like the audition committee to review.
 November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Clarinet B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
  3. Optional: up to two additional selections that you would like the audition committee to review.

Double Bass B.M. in Sound Recording Technology

Guitar B.M. in Sound Recording Technology

Oboe B.M. in Sound Recording Technology

Organ B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.  
  2. Optional: up to two additional selections that you would like the audition committee to review.
  November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Percussion All Degree Programs except Jazz Studies and Sound Recording Technology
  1. One two-mallet or four-mallet marimba solo;
  2. One timpani solo;
  3. One rudimental or orchestral snare drum solo; and
  4. Optional: demonstration of drum set styles.
 November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Percussion (Drum set) B.M. in Jazz Studies
  1. Demonstration of drum set styles:
    - Swing with sticks
    - Swing with brushes
    - Bossa Nova and one other latin style
    -Trade "4"s with yourself in the swing style
  2. One two-mallet or four-mallet marimba solo;
  3. One timpani solo; and
  4. One rudimental or orchestral snare drum solo.
 November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Percussion (Drum set) B.M. in Sound Recording Technology

Demonstration of drum set styles:

  1. Swing with sticks
  2. Swing with brushes
  3. Bossa Nova and one other latin style
  4. Two different rock styles
  5. Two different funk styes
 November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Piano B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Optional: up to two additional selections that you would like the audition committee to review.
  November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants), and December 1 for applicants who would like to audition in January or February  
Saxophone B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.

Violin B.M. in Sound Recording Technology

Voice B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. One foreign language song and one English art song.
