All full-time students in the School of Music are required to attend ten ensemble, faculty or guest artist recitals, or master classes. They are also required to attend five student recitals. All students must meet this requirement for six semesters. Transfer students should meet with the associate dean to determine if they are eligible to substitute transfer credits. Recital attendance is a pass/fail class, and must be completed successfully to graduate. Since the course earns zero credit, a failing grade in Recital Attendance does not affect the grade point average, but it does remain part of the student’s permanent record.
You must pick up your recital attendance card from the music office receptionist. The card will be punched immediately before and immediately after each recital that you attend. Look for the designated “card puncher” outside of the concert or recital hall. Only performances in the Whalen Center scheduled on the official School of Music calendar are eligible, and all recitals must occur in the same semester by the last day of classes.
It is at the discretion of your studio professor to make certain recitals mandatory.
