Membership in the Music Theory Society of New York State is open to all persons interested in any aspect of music theory. Membership includes a subscription to the refereed journal Theory and Practice. The membership year for MTSNYS is the academic year (1 July–30 June).
Membership dues:

- Joint: $30
- Joint Retired: $15
