2014 High School Division Faculty
Summer Music Academy faculty consist of current Ithaca College faculty, top music educators from across the country, and renowned guest artists. Additional faculty and guest artists will be announced periodically.
|Andrew Bergevin, Violin|
|Violinist, Symphoria, Visiting Lecturer, Cornell University, Ithaca College; BM and MM, Ithaca College|
Andrew Bergevin is currently a core violinist with Symphoria. He previously served as Acting Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, which he joined for the 2012-13 season at the invitation of Maestro JoAnn Falletta. Prior to moving to Virginia, Andrew was a member of the late Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, and in the past also served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Binghamton Philharmonic and as a member of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. He has been a substitute with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Skaneateles Festival Orchestra.
As soloist, Andrew has performed the Tchaikovsky Concerto (1st movement) with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra as winner of the IC Concerto Competition in 2007. He was also a featured soloist with the Binghamton Community Orchestra and Binghamton Youth Symphony.
An avid teacher, Andrew is Visiting Lecturer in violin at Cornell University, served as a Lecturer in Violin at Ithaca College for the 2013-14 academic year, violin faculty at Le Moyne College, where he has directed sectionals for the student chamber orchestra, and violin/viola faculty at Opus Ithaca Community Music School, where he teaches students of all ages.
Andrew has attended many summer festivals, including Meadowmount, Brevard Music Center (where he served as concertmaster), and Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival.
He earned his BM in violin performance (magna cum laude) and MM in Suzuki Pedagogy from Ithaca College, where he did long-term teacher training with Sandy Reuning. While at IC, Andrew studied with Susan Waterbury and was her graduate assistant.
