|Luis Felipe Nieto, Composition|
|Composer, MM Candidate, Ithaca College School of Music|
Luis Felipe Nieto Sachica was born in Bogota, Colombia and grew up in Cota, the Savanna that surrounds the city. The region’s mixture of metropolitan and rural cultural life truly influenced his inclination towards an eclectic taste in music, which by his mid-teens had ranged from salsa to classic rock and classical music. A former guitar player, Felipe developed a fascination for composition by writing small tunes and pieces for the classical guitar and later expanded his curiosity to other instruments and forms. In 2009 Felipe moved to the United States to pursue a career in music composition. There, He was generously sponsored by the Wanda Bass Music School at Oklahoma City University where he studied with Edward Knight. Currently, Felipe is pursuing a Masters degree at Ithaca College where he is working under the guidance of Jorge Grossmann and Dana Wilson. Felipe’s music is rooted in a combination of lyricism and rhythmic complexity and intends to touch upon themes that range from political commentary to simple sound exploration. At the same time, he believes strongly in versatility and feels that his musical language is open to the exigencies of every piece he composes.
