Patrick O’Connell earned a dual Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Double Bass Performance from the Ithaca College School of Music, where he studied with Nicholas Walker and Henry Neubert. He went on to receive a Master’s of Music degree from the Yale School of Music in 2009 where he studied with Donald Palma. He has furthered his studies at Domaine Forget (QC) where he worked with Francois Rabbath and Paul Ellison. Further studies brought him to the Sarasota Music Festival (FL), and the George Vance Camp (MD).
During his time at Yale, he toured South Korea and China with the Yale Philharmonia and participated in the 2008 Beijing Cultural Olympics. O’Connell maintains an active performing schedule as Principal Double
Bass of the Schenectady Symphony and the Assistant Principal Double Bass of the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra.
O’Connell has served as a public school music educator in both the Shenendehowa and Bethlehem Central School Districts in New York State’s Capital Region and maintains an active studio of private instruction. He has also worked as an adjunct double bass instructor at Union College and is a regular coach with the Empire State Youth Orchestra. He has also served on the instruction faculty of the NYASTA string summer program in Ithaca, NY.
