Ellen Staurowsky, professor of sport management and media
Research conducted by Staurowsky indicates that even 40 years after its passage, college coaches don't know enough about Title IX, the federal law that mandates gender equity in educational opportunities, including athletics. She told Athletic Business magazine that administrators aren't doing their part to educate coaches on Title IX compliance. "My feeling is that the entire athletic enterprise would be much less dysfunctional than it currently is if everybody was genuinely participating in the dialogue. But the plain fact of the matter is that, from 1972 to the present, administrators haven't gotten the job done. And we know this because we continue to have enormous compliance problems."
