‘Friends with benefits’ may seem like a good idea, but Live Science, in a story picked up by Fox News, asked Plante if this kind of arrangement can work for people in real life. “Friends with benefits can be a really creative and adaptive way [for a person] to understand themselves and what it's like to relate to another person,” Plante said. “One of the things we find that most of the people who have friends with benefits relationships, is that at some point it becomes friends with costs instead.”
