Marian Brown, special assistant to the provost and vice president for academic affairs
Ithaca College's decision to decline to participate in a “green” ranking being put together by Sierra magazine made news. As the Chronicle reported, administrators found the survey process too time-consuming, opaque and of questionable value. Marian Brown wondered, for example, what assessment could be made based on responses to a question asking how many students drive to the campus in cars. “I don't know if you figure out how meaningful that is if you're in an urban setting or a rural campus like ours. How is that percentage useful for anyone to know?”
