Performance by the Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paul Grobey, playing works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Ravel; 4 p.m., Ford Hall, Whalen Center.

Talk by U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on her “American Opportunity Agenda”; 1 p.m., Emerson Suite B, Phillips Hall (limited seating).
TUESDAY, FEB. 4
Distinguished Visiting Writers Series reading by author Maggie Nelson, winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Nonfiction and National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry; 6 p.m., Handwerker Gallery, Gannett Center.
“Aerial Reconnaissance,” an exhibit of large-scale mixed media drawings by Carla Stetson exploring topics such as wind and water currents, glacial melting and planetary movement; and “Your Margins, Your Rivers, Your Diminutive Villages,” an exhibit of works by Patte Loper featuring site-specific drawings and sculptures guided by surrealist automatism; running through Mar. 7, Handwerker Gallery, Gannett Center. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon–5 p.m.
