Renowned Violinist Elmar Oliveira to Perform at Ithaca College
ITHACA, NY — Violinist Elmar Oliveira, a dynamic soloist and outstanding interpreter of music, will perform with Symphony Syracuse at Ithaca College’s Ford Hall on Monday, Oct. 10. Beginning at 8:15 p.m., the program will feature Oliveira performing “Violin Concerto no. 3” by Saint-Saens. Also on the program are Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture” and Beethoven’s “Symphony no. 7.” Stewart Robertson will conduct. Formerly the music director of Glimmerglass Opera (now Glimmerglass Festival), Robertson recently completed a 13-year tenure as music director of the Florida Grand Opera.

Maintaining a vigorous international concert and recording career, Oliveira performs a repertoire that is among the most diverse of any of today’s preeminent artists. Hailed for his performances of the standard violin literature, he is also a much sought-after interpreter of contemporary music. He has premiered works by numerous distinguished composers, including Morton Gould, Ezra Laderman, Benjamin Lees and Charles Wuorinen.
Oliveira remains the only American violinist to win the Gold Medal at Moscow's Tchaikovsky International Competition. He was also the First Prize winner at the Naumburg International Competition and the first violinist to receive the Avery Fisher Prize.
