Senior Housing Expo Offers Future Planning for Ithaca Elders

ITHACA, NY — The Ithaca College Gerontology Institute and Tompkins County Office for the Aging will co-sponsor a Senior Housing Expo on Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. Held at the Hotel Ithaca (formerly Holiday Inn) on South Cayuga Street, the expo will feature representatives from over 20 independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and continuing care retirement community facilities. The event is free and open to the public.

“Individuals and families have a lot of questions about housing options available for older adults in our community,” said Lisa Holmes, director of the Tompkins County Office for the Aging. “The Senior Housing Expo will provide a unique opportunity to have the range of Tompkins County’s senior housing providers on hand displaying their information and answering questions, all under one roof.”

David Stoyell, aging services specialist at the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, will give a presentation on “Senior Housing: The Range of Independent Living and Residential Care Options” at 1:30 p.m. Linda Story, a local organizing consultant and CEO of Clear the Way, will give a presentation at 2:30 p.m. on the benefits of downsizing and how to minimize stress when dealing with it.
