Catherine Varnum '05 wins regional Emmy
Ithaca College journalism alum Catherine Varnum was awarded an Emmy on Dec. 3 for her three-part series, "Black Market Babies." Varnum is an anchor/reporter with Action News in Jacksonville, Fla.
After graduating cum laude in 2005, Varnum began her journalism career at WETM in Elmira, then moved to WHEC in Rochester. She has worked in Jacksonville since 2009. Varnum has covered several national stories, including the oil spill in the Gulf, the Florida pastor who wanted to burn the Koran and the manhunt for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips. She also covered the Buffalo plane crash that killed 50 people for the Today show and MSNBC. She received New York's Associated Press award for best spot news coverage.
Catherine grew up outside of Syracuse. She was a competitive figure skater before turning to coaching a decade ago.
