|Allied – THA, New York City, NY|
Jessica Shein, an Integrated Marketing Communications major, spent the 2012 summer interning with Allied – THA in New York City. Allied – THA offers integrated promotion and marketing services to movie companies on a local and regional basis.
Jessica’s internship duties ranged from assisting with promotions for major film studios and brainstorming creative ideas for films to helping with promotional item mailings and organizing promo inventory. She researched potential partners and word-of-mouth groups for each film, contacting them to see if they would be interested to collaborate with the company. Jessica assisted with movie screenings and writing screening reports for the studios. She helped create and organize promotional events such as movie premieres, including The Dark Knight Rises premiere and street team appearances.
Jessica says she fully achieved her goals and developed many vital skills such as running big events and communicating effectively with people to make sure promotions are successful. “I got to observe many publicists handle different accounts and studios. I definitely could apply what I learned in my Park classes to my internship, especially when it came down to targeting a certain demographic for a film and coming up with creative ideas that would fit this market,” she also adds. She gained many great contacts with the publicists and fellow interns. Jessica says her internship was very beneficial to her because the publicists she worked with can provide contacts for Park's Los Angeles program.
Jessica had a wonderful experience as an intern for Allied-THA, one she would highly recommend to future students, especially to those who are interested in working right in the heart of the entertainment industry. “I gained a lot through challenging experiences and tasks but had fun while doing it! It was a perfect inside look at the public relations world and how things work,” she says. She also points out she is way more confident in her skills now than ever before. “I knew I wanted to work in entertainment, but my time with Allied-THA showed me that I would be very happy pursuing a career within film."
