IC PRSSA Makes Wishes Come True With Charity Basketball Tournament
Ithaca College’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will be hosting its annual charity basketball tournament, Swish for Make-A-Wish, on April 22, 2012. The tournament will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Ben Light Gymnasium in Ithaca College’s Hill Center. All proceeds from the event will benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation, an internationally known nonprofit, which works to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.
Set up as a five-on-five, double-elimination style tournament, teams may choose between the pro and a semi-pro bracket depending on their skill level. The cost is $10 per player and includes a team T-shirt and food throughout the day from The Nines, Pudgies, Moe’s and more. Interested individuals can download the team sign-up sheet and waiver from IC PRSSA’s Facebook page or pick them up during IC PRSSA tabling hours in Campus Center, the Fitness Center and the Business School through April 13. Forms are due to the intramural office in Hill Center 102 by April 16.
Ithaca College’s Public Relations Student Society of America has hosted the tournament annually for several years. Last year, the tournament raised over $1,300 for The Make-A-Wish Foundation and brought in over 200 players and attendees.
Kelly Wicks, the chapter’s vice president, said, “PRSSA has become known for Swish for Make-A-Wish and we’ve been working hard to ensure another great event. I spent last summer interning at The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and I’m excited to help an organization that engages in such inspiring work.”
Swish for Make-A-Wish is one of two large events that PRSSA hosts each school year. The club meets once a week to plan these events, in addition to engaging in professional development activities. As the student portion of the national, professional organization, Public Relations Society of America, PRSSA “seeks to advance the public relations profession by nurturing generations of future professionals.” To learn more about PRSSA and the Swish for Make-A-Wish event, email email@example.com.
