Ithaca College American Marketing Association Chapter Wins Big at Nationals

Ithaca College’s American Marketing Association chapter made its mark at the 34th Annual American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans. The Executive Board and three general members attended the conference along with 120 other chapters from around the world on March 22 to 24, 2012.

ICAMA was named a Bronze chapter for the second year in a row, moving up from 18th place to 12th place nationally. This particular award is based on overall chapter accomplishments throughout the year, and over 300 chapters submitted their chapter plans and annual reports for judging. This is especially exciting for Ithaca College’s chapter because it was competing with hundreds of schools; some of which are up to four times the size of Ithaca College’s undergraduate student body.

ICAMA also had the honor of being asked to present at three different sessions during the conference. One of which included the entire executive board that presented to over 150 students from competing chapters. Jim Reed, AMA’s national spokesperson, hand selected students for this presentation to share our experiences about running an effective executive board and chapter.

In addition, ICAMA received an honorable mention for its membership recruitment campaign competition along with some significant rewards in the AMA Saves Lives competition. It received first place for spring semester AMA Saves Lives Contest most video views, which set a new AMA national record of 39,000 views. ICAMA also received honorable mentions for both its AMA Saves Lives event and its Ithaca College AMA website.

IMC major Carolyn Cox, vice president of advertising and graphic design on the ICAMA executive board, said, “This conference was an amazing experience. To be able to compete with these large chapters that receive an enormous amount of funding and have large student bodies is remarkable. I learned about innovative marketing campaigns, effective ways to work in groups and top companies in the field of marketing. I met some really incredible people who are pushing boundaries and changing the way people are marketing to consumers. This was an experience I will never forget.”
