Photoshop Skills Lend to Logo Contest Success
IC Voicestream, Ithaca College’s premier co-ed a cappella ensemble, reached out to its peers for assistance to refresh and re-brand its image. The ensemble launched a contest exclusively for Ithaca College students to have the opportunity to design the next IC Voicestream logo.
The contest ran from November 4-14. Integrated marketing communications majors Zoee Silber, ‘13, and Drew Zieff, ‘14, manage social media for the group and promoted the contest through Facebook and Twitter. Contest rules stated that submissions include the words “IC Voicestream,” the “Voicestream mouth” symbol, and incorporate the group’s color scheme of red, black and white.
Entries were compiled from the IC Voicestream email account and group members selected a winner during rehearsal on Thursday, November 14. The logo design of Georgie Morley, IMC major, ‘14, was selected due to her successful redesign of the classic mouth symbol and bold typeface. When asked to provide her thoughts on the design process, Georgie said, “I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel, just give it a tune-up. I believe my design manages to keep the essence of Voicestream intact.”
In reward for winning the contest, Georgie will receive free merchandise marked with the new logo, reserved seating with three guests at future concerts and Voicestream’s latest CD – along with bragging rights. Georgie will be officially recognized during the IC Voicestream Block II concert, scheduled for Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites.
IC Voicestream was founded by Simon Baumer, Paul Canetti, Marissa De Vito and Jessica Kupiec in the fall of 2002. The group performs a repertoire of primarily contemporary pop and rock music.
