What Students are Saying
We asked IC students one question: "Tell us what you want IC students to know about counseling
and the Counseling Center."
-
“I believe that if students were aware of how many people use the services
offered here, they may feel more comfortable. Also, it may be helpful to note that it isn’t
just for those with serious problems.”
-
“IC Counseling really helped me out in a tough time. Their counselors are kind,
caring and helpful people who are experienced at what they do.”
-
“Going to counseling should never be something that you are embarrassed about. At
first I was scared to be seen walking through the Counseling Center’s doors, but now I walk
through them proud because I know I am helping myself and I feel good about it.”
-
“I’d want students to know how many others [go to the Counseling Center] every
day; all types of people, all sorts of reasons, many of which anybody can relate to. Maybe you
don’t have major issues, maybe you just need to talk.”
-
“Counseling isn’t for crazy people; it’s for anyone who wants to express
their feelings; to feel less misunderstood.”
-
“College is stressful. If you feel badly, get help. Everyone deserves to feel
calm and strong.”
-
“Needing to talk to someone when you’re having a rough time is never
something to feel ashamed of. NOT seeking help is the REAL problem. Never feel like you
shouldn’t speak out when you’re in pain, lost or sad. Things will seem very
different when you’ve said them out loud and can find new ways to see them. Never feel
bad about wanting to help yourself.”
-
“My parents don’t approve of sharing your feelings with others, especially
professionals, but having that space to openly share my thoughts and feelings about what’s
going on in my life has been one of the healthiest and rewarding choices of my life.”
-
“It’s free and it helps.”
