The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. This year, the conference will be hosted right here at Ithaca College March 31 - April 2, 2011.
NCUR will bring more than 2,000 students and faculty from around the nation and beyond to our campus in an event that highlights student scholarship in a wide variety of disciplines.
The conference will provide many ways for us to showcase Ithaca College, and our exceptional students, programs, and services, for visitors. It will also provide unique opportunities for us - members of the IC community are welcome to attend NCUR 2011 sessions free of charge. The conference will feature student seminars, performances, poster presentations, plenary speakers and special events.
The call for student presentation abstracts is open, and the deadline is November 19. Several current students are active on the planning committee and are blogging about all aspects of the conference right now. One of these students, Heather M., has written a post specifically inviting LGBT and Allied students, and all students studying in LGBTA-related fields, to submit their proposals and learn more about NCUR. Read her post from the main NCUR 2011 planning blog, or check back at Out for Good to read it coming up next!

Congrats once again to the students who created the It Gets Better - Ithaca College video! News of the video has spread quickly, prompting alumni to share their appreciation and support, as well as stories in the local press and beyond.
And now It Gets Better - Ithaca College has some company - it's now been joined by new videos from Facebook, the New York State Governor Paterson, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the President, along with many others from the very famous to maybe even that student in the res hall room next to you.
But here at Out for Good we're partial to the IC version - you know you want to watch it one more time:

Members of the Ithaca College television and radio stations organized a video shoot in honor of the Trevor Project and the "It Gets Better" project. A very special thanks to Rob, Matt, and Nick for their creativity, vision, and initiative - and to all who participated!

It gets better - take it from me, or better yet take it from Glee's Chris Colfer. And if you are a student looking for ways to make it better, or wanting to share ways to make it better, visit the Make it Better Project.

With all the sad news these last few days, it's been hard for Out for Good to find the good. But it is out there. Learn more about bullying and cyberbullying. Remember Tyler Clementi, Raymond Chase, Asher Brown, Billy Lucas, Seth Walsh, and the many others about which we may not have heard. Follow the ongoing story of out University of Michigan Student Assembly President Chris Armstrong. And of the Indianapolis bakery that refused to fill an order for rainbow cupcakes for a college student group's National Coming Out Day event. Then, read rocker and ally Dave Navarro's open letter to LGBT teens. View Ellen DeGeneres' important message - then act. Reach out to others, share strength and resources, show your goodness. And thank an ally today - they embody being Out for Good.
