Birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love
Valentine's Day - ready or not, it's that time of year. And in the words of the song from the Broadway musical Paris, everyone falls in love.
Sure, there may be a few more complications or considerations for us LGBT people when it comes to love. But just in case thinking about the challenges of being an LGBT person gets you down (especially at this time of year), consider the ciliates and their unconventional approach to sex. By the conclusion of ciliate sex, the two beings involved become genetically the same – imagine beginning this sort of process as yourselves and ending up identical twins!
So now compared to them, you have no problems, right?
There's a lot going on right now in terms of discussions of LGBT people - our lives, our relationships, our rights...and whether you're partnered, single, looking, or something else entirely, Valentine's Day can sometimes seem like even more pressure.
Stumped about how to mark this day?
Check out IC AfterDark's event tonight.
Visit the History Channel's Valentine's Day site to learn more about the history of Valentine's Day, be inspired by quotes about love and romantic movie suggestions, and play some Valentine's Day games.
Listen to Alanis Morissette sing Let's Do it, Let's Fall in Love.
