Each year, SASP conducts an information session within the first few weeks of the fall semester. At this time, students interested in SASP can apply for employment. After an interview with the current executive board, selected applicants enter into a paid training program.
All SASP members are required to complete the basic training course before they are accepted as senior employees. This training course has two basic phases: the candidate phase and the probationary phase. The candidate phase consists primarily of classroom instruction, encompassing approximately 12 hours of training that lasts about four weeks. The probationary phase is focused on practical experience and lasts for at least 10 patrol shifts, which generally run 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
All SASP members must be enrolled as full or part-time students at Ithaca College and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.6. All employees must also be in good standing with Student Financial Services and have a clean history with the Office of Judicial Affairs.
