Register and Vote
Voter Eligibility
To be eligible to vote in the United States you must meet the following criteria:
- be a citizen of the United States
- be 18 years old by December 31st of the year in which you register to vote (you must be 18 years old by the date of the election in which you wish to vote)
- Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere
Register to Vote
Register to vote in the State of New York. (Please note, Ithaca College students who live locally, including in residence halls, meet the residency requirement to register and vote in the State of New York.)
Register to vote in any state or territory or in the State of New York using the universal voter registration form.
Please note that voter registration applications must be mailed in an envelope with first class postage.

Voters who register to vote for the first time by mail, and who have not previously voted in a federal election in the state, must provide either a copy of certain identification documents when they register or show such identification (i.e., photo identification, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government document) the first time they vote in a federal election.
Local Polling Place
For students who live on or near campus, your local voting center is located in the Circles Community Center.
For others in the Ithaca area, check the Tompkins County Board of Elections for your polling location.
Absentee Voter Information
There is a great deal of variation in states' procedures for absentee voting. Please visit your state's Election Division website for more information on absentee voting in your state.
