We look forward to celebrating our 39th year of Suzuki at Ithaca College with you in 2013. You can do much to prepare for the musical activities of the Institute before you arrive. I would like to urge each of you to do the necessary work to arrive in good review shape for the Institute. The Suzuki style of teaching takes advantage of the common repertoire that every child has studied, and you should expect that the teachers would be reaching back into the reportoire in their routine of teaching. Having the repertoire solidly in your hands will help you to feel confident and happy. It is each parent's responsibility to help their child to achieve their goal of preparation. It is always a bit sad to see some children struggling with old pieces because they haven't followed Dr. Suzuki's ideas about learning. On the other hand, those who are well prepared are confident and joyful in their learning and performance.
The Institute schedule has been arranged for each child to have instruction with several teachers, time for personal practice, time for listening to fellow students and faculty in concert, and some well-earned relaxation and recreation. When you arrive, please take time to organize your daily activity with your child so that everyone can derive maximum benefit from the exeperience.
I look forward to greeting each of you this summer.
