Ithaca's local public transit agency.
Ithaca College underwrites the cost of student passes on Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) buses. These student pass permissions can be purchased online at the TCAT website and your bus pass will be loaded directly onto your Ithaca College student ID card. Please note that it may take 1-3 days from the time you buy your bus pass online for your purchased bus pass permission to be activated on your ID card – in the meantime, be sure to have $1.50 cash fare on hand.
TCAT has instituted differential zone fare pricing; but most destinations where IC students would want to visit are within Zone 1.
15-Ride pass - Zone 1: $15 or Zone 2: $20
Monthly pass - Zone 1: $30 or Zone 2: $40
IC Fall Semester (August 1 through December 31) - Zone 1: $110 or Zone 2: $145
IC Spring Semester (January 1 through May 31) - Zone 1: $110 or Zone 2: $145
IC Summer Semester (June 1 through August 15) - Zone 1: $45 or Zone 2: $60
TCAT Route 11 bus runs between Ithaca College and the Commons. At the Commons, you can transfer to other route buses that will get you to most destinations throughout the city. Some Route 11 runs “interline” with Route 30 to the Shops at Ithaca Mall to create a “one-seat ride” to the movies and shopping – no need to transfer to another bus downtown.
TCAT, Inc., working in partnership with Ithaca College, now offers expanded late‑night service on Route 11/90. The aim of the new service on the Route 11/90 is to give Ithaca College students and others more opportunities to travel between campus, downtown or Cornell University at night and in the early‑morning hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The enhanced schedule provides service every half hour as opposed to every hour from Ithaca Commons to Ithaca College between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays. The last trip departing from Ithaca Commons all three days is now 2:00 a.m.
The extra service will operate during fall and spring breaks, but not during the fall and winter holidays of November 24‑26; Dec. 22‑24; Dec. 29‑31 (Note: TCAT does not operate system wide on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1).
Check the TCAT website for complete information about routes and schedules or call 607-277-RIDE.
Ithaca Carshare is a local, non-profit carsharing service. Unlike most car rental programs, Ithaca Carshare membership is open to students 18 and over (although additional insurance requirements may apply). Ithaca Carshare is a membership-based service that provides 24/7 access to vehicles on an hourly basis. There are more than a dozen vehicles in the Ithaca Carshare network, all conveniently located along TCAT bus routes. The nearest car to campus is just down the hill on the corner of Hudson Street and Columbia Streets, along TCAT Route 11.
As a carshare member, you reserve a car on the web or over the phone. You unlock the car with a special keyfob or keycard, drive it around as if it were your own vehicle, then return it to the same location where you picked it up, re-lock the vehicle with your fob or card, and leave it for the next carshare member’s use. Your usage time and mileage are electronically tracked and your credit card is automatically charged.
Members pay an hourly and mileage rate for use of the Ithaca Carshare car; members are not charged additional fees for gas, insurance, maintenance, cleaning, or permanent parking. Ithaca College has worked with Ithaca Carshare to offer special rates to Ithaca College students.
For Fall 2012, the special Ithaca Carshare IC student rate is:
$15 one-time application fee
FREE membership ($200 value)
“It’s My Car” plan: $4.95 per hour; 30¢ per mile (for cars)
Start out with a $5.00 credit on your account!
Night Owl Rate (11:00pm-7:00am): $2.50 per hour plus mileage
Day Rate: $49.50 plus mileage

Zimride Ithaca Community-wide Rideshare Program
Ithaca College collaborated with Cornell University, TC3, and other local community partners to develop a rideshare program to connect drivers with riders for commuting, shopping, weekend/vacation rides home and travel to special events. Zimride Ithaca allows Ithaca College students to offer or seek rides only from other IC students, or you can opt to extend your search to the other two campuses, or you may fully open your search to the general Ithaca community. Zimride is especially useful for students seeking rides home on weekends or breaks, or for rides downtown or to the mall for shopping and recreation. This service is completely free to use.
This local transportation information portal offers info on all forms of transportation in and around Tompkins County.
Head home or off on vacation from the Ithaca airport. Delta, Continental, US Air and United are all available right here.
