Tom Pescherine
Managing Director
Bear Stearns Division of JP Morgan
On Thursday, November 19, 2009 the Financial Management Association held their Distinguished Speaker Series with a presentation by Tom Pescherine of the Bear Stearns Division of JP Morgan. Mr. Pescherine currently serves as a managing director for private client services for Bear Stearns, a unit of JP Morgan. Tom gave the students sound advice for breaking into the job market, as well a comprehensive synopsis of the financial markets. Furthermore, Tom answered a variety of questions posed by the 40-strong student attendance. Prior to Tom’s discussion, he gave attendees a presentation book outlining various aspects of the financial markets, from average returns for the S&P 500 to comparison returns of international markets. The packet helped to connect a plethora of financial themes, giving quantitative data that cultivated historical perspective for the 2008 financial and economic crisis. Tom also perceptively clarified wealth management questions stemming from the controversy around the 80/20, 60/40 asset allocation strategy. Tom’s presentation served as a first-class model for the purpose of FMA’s Distinguished Speaker Series. The event was a truly beneficial by giving students a first-hand perspective of the financial markets by a Wall Street veteran. The Financial Management Association sincerely thanks Mr. Pescherine for his time and insights.
The Financial Management Association was created for all students interested in business and finance. The Investment Club is an extension of the FMA and allows students to experience the investment side of business. All events are sponsored jointly, and both groups work closely with the Core Trading Consultants.
The FMA/Investment Club uses the Trading Room as its base, which provides access to real-time information on stock and bond quotes, market news, analysts' predictions, and more. Each semester the club sponsors the Investment Challenge investment game, as well as the annual School of Business golf tournament.
